Works great to brake down hard clay soil
I had very hard clay soil, three applications and it loosened up the soil so I could finally grow grass. I put it on just before it rained.

Gypsum is lawn friendly
Gypsum on your lawn will do what the package label states and more! I have sandy "soil" (if it qualifies as soil) and gypsum helps it retain moisture, so it reduces the need to irrigate. It raises the calcium level which weeds don't like. You can apply gypsum liberally and it will not harm the grass. I know, some applications feel like walking on marbles. It also works to repair salt and pet damage.
